What are W-9 Forms?

Employers report earnings to the IRS by withholding federal income taxes and social security. They also do this by paying social security, medicare taxes and unemployment tax on wages paid to an employee.

This is not the case when it comes to independent contractors because they are not employed, they are contracted. This is why they must report their wages to the IRS at the end of each year by filing a W-9 form
